The cold desert wind blew in from the west but the CAVS 9U had a hot performance. The team started the event with a Saturday game against the AVAC Hoyas. Our team came to play defense with the help of newcomer Kayla. She locked down on several defenders from the Hoyas. Tristen had another fantastic defensive and offensive game. He stopped their best point guard. Bryce Wigton contributed with a late minute basket. CAVS defeated AVAC Hoyas 23-9.
Then in the semis, the CAVS came back from an 8-point deficit to take the victory and forward on to the Finals. The CAVS pressed full court the entire second half. Thanks to Anthony Spann’s driving lay-ups and Grant's rebounding, the CAVS were able to past the Gladiators in the second half. Jonathan was instrumental with his full-court defense and many steals. CAVS defeated Gladiators 27-19.
In the finals the CAVS lost to the Spurs from Torrance 36-24. The CAVS showed a lot of heart by their defensive intensity. Brandon Perez showed his good CAVS – “D” by many help positions against the Spurs quick guards. Justin Davis had a good rebounding game and made 2 baskets in the finals.
The 9Us had another very good performance and made the CAVS organization very proud.
